Wildlife Restoration

There are several aspects that come into play when considering wildlife restoration. You cannot have a successful restoration project without ecological restoration. For thorough ecological restoration you need a well rounded understanding of both native and invasive species. The interactions between these organisms can be complex and therefore those should be fully understood. Once quality habitat is established, then you can focus on the wildlife. Anthropogenic forces should be carefully worked with as they can be quite detrimental to restoration projects. The bright side is, although destructive as times, people can be extremely useful and innovative. It is these positive problem solving skills you must rely on when approaching a restoration project.

Top carnivores are most at risk when it comes to wildlife restoration. Resilient and well evolved, they have in many ways failed to adapt to our chaotic and ever changing world. It is our rapid growth which threatens them most as they need ample range to fulfill their territory needs. This is one of many ways I see sustainability as a light at the end of the tunnel. Just when it seemed like all hope was lost for America’s wild legacy, sustainability is rushing in to breathe new life into wildlife restoration efforts.
